John Pearson

Founder and Coach

John Pearson (JP) is the co-founder of Summer Hoops Program which became TMP Basketball in 2009. He is currently the head boys basketball coach at Porter-Gaud High School. He has 20 years experience as an assistant and head coach.

JP also holds the title of Director of Diversity at Porter-Gaud. He has coached AAU basketball for 20 years.

JP played his high school basketball at Lugoff-Elgin High School in Lugoff, SC under Coach Homer Carraway

COLLEGE

  • Earned a basketball scholarship to Tennessee State University where he played for the legendary Ed Martin. Teammates with the late Anthony Mason (NBA)
  • Faced noted teams like the Georgetown Hoyas featuring Patrick Ewing, David Wingate, and Memphis State featuring William Bedford, Keith Lee and Andre Turner.  After a year, transferred to the College of Charleston under legendary coach John Kresse.
  • BA in Political Science
  • Currently employed at Porter-Gaud School as Director of Diversity

BASKETBALL COACHING EXPERIENCE

  • As an employee of the state of South Carolina, joined the legendary High School Coach, Randy Clark as his assistant coach in 1989 at Porter-Gaud School.
  • In 2004, 2005 and 2006 the Porter-Gaud Boys won consecutive state championships.
  • From 2004 – 2006, was named the Head Varsity Girls basketball coach, but continued to assist the boys.  In 2005, the varsity girls won it’s first state championship in history.  It was the first time in SCISA history the boys and girls program won a state title in the same year.
  • In 2007, Randy Clark retired and JP was named the Head Men’s basketball coach,
  • Appeared in the SCISA state championship games in 2008 and 2009.
  • In 2016, the boys basketball program won the state championship. Porter-Gaud was region champions 3 times in the last 10 years and co-champions once.
  • Porter-Gaud School has a nice history of coaching student athletes who have been able to continue their basketball careers.  To date, 16 athletes (two girls) have played next level basketball.  Two athletes have been able to play professionally.  (Travis Smith – Germany and Khris Middleton – NBA (currently Milwaukee Bucks)

TRAVEL BASKETBALL EXPERIENCE

  • In 1996, co founded Port City/Summer Hoops travel basketball team with Antoine Saunders which later transitioned to TMP travel basketball team where we compete in AAU, Big Shots, Phenom Hoops and more.
  • TMP continues to work with youth from the community to help them realize their dreams.  To date, our organization has coached 8 pro basketball player (D’metrius Nelson, D’Montre Edwards, RJ Slawson, Travis Smith, Shane Heyward, Drew Crowell, Khris Middleton (NBA), and Terrell Everette.
  • TMP has also coached two players who are current NFL players.  (Bruce Ellington, and Edmund Robinson)
  • Currently there are 6 players playing professionally in Europe, NBA and NFL.

Antoine Saunders

Founder and U17 Boys Coach

Antoine is a graduate of Wofford College where he played basketball and held the Wofford College career assist record holder for a season, career and single game. He is the former head coach at St. Johns High School and took over a program that went 3 plus years without winning a game. He led St. Johns to the first Boys Region Basketball Championships in school history. He also led St. Johns to multiple Region Championships. Antoine coached 7 St. Johns players who received college basketball scholarships  and was 5 time Region Coach of the Year

He is currently an assistant coach at Charleston Collegiate (CCS). He joined Jay Godbolt’s staff in 2011 at CCS. Antoine helped lead CCS to its first Boys Basketball State Championship during the 2013-14 season. He also helped lead the team to second state championship during the 2015-16 season.He has coached four Charleston Collegiate players who received basketball scholarships.

The Summer Hoops/TMP Basketball has a total of 84 players that Antoine has coached that have played college basketball. Since changing name to TMP we have coached 48 players that have played college basketball plus 4 college football players from 2009-2014. The 2015 Summer team has not graduated and scholarship totals for 2015 are not complete and not included in numbers.Summer Hoops/TMP has had 1 NBA Player (Khris Middleton), 7 professional players (Demetrius Nelson, Drew Crowell, Terrell Everett, RJ Slawson, Travis Smith, Shane Heyward, D’Montre Edwards) who played in Europe and 2 NFL Players (Bruce Ellington and Edmond Robinson). Currently there are 1 NBA player, 5 professional players in Europe and 2 NFL players.

Presley Singleton

Head Coach: U17 Girls

Presley Singleton is currently the Associate Athletic Director at First Baptist School. She has also been named the new Head Coach for Varsity Girls Basketball for 2017-18 season at First Baptist. Presley Singleton was head coach for varsity girls basketball at Northwood Academy for many years.  She led the Lady Chargers to back to back SCISA State Championships in 2014-15 and 2015-16.

While the head coach of  Northwood Academy,  Presley led her teams to a record of 160-29 with a 57-5 record in region play. Singleton was named the SCISA AAA Coach of the Year for the last five seasons and was the Region AAA-I Coach of the Year for 2013-14, 2014-15 and 2015-16 campaigns. She was also selected as the Lowcountry Coach of the Year for the 2014-15 and 2015-16 seasons by the Post and Courier. The former captain at Wofford College (’96) began her coaching career at Calhoun Academy (SC) where she was Region AAA-III Coach of the Year. Her coaching experience also includes a junior varsity stint where her teams won 44 games in a row including two undefeated seasons.

Coach Singleton has also been involved with coaching at the AAU level as a head coach for the SC 76ers, an elite summer basketball program.

She also assisted the Nike Elite training program in Charleston, SC in the summer of 2014. Singleton has a long list of Northwood players who have moved on to play college basketball and looks to add to it as she joins TMP and directs the girls program.

Stephanie Davey

Team Trainer

Stephanie grew up in Kansas and is an avid Jayhawks fan.  She graduated for the University of Kansas with a degree in athletic training and from Grad school at Arizona State University with a masters in higher education. She has worked in rehab and performance clinics in London England and South Florida for two years each. She currently works for MUSC Sports Medicine as an Athletic Trainer and is the official sports trainer for James Island High School. She has been at MUSC for seven years.
