Porter-Gaud and TMP U 17 players Jake Lanford, Aaron Nesmith, Josiah James, and Harrison Whatley combined for nine dunks in their January 12, 2017 game vs Orangeburg Prep.
Shamaria Myers had been out all season with a bone fracture. She returned to action and set the tone for the Swamp Foxes in their home game with the West Ashley Wildcats.
Jake Lanford is in the midst of a terrific junior year. He is our leading rebounder and one of the best big men in the State. He is a leader on and off the court and an incredibly hard worker who also excels in the classroom and every year is near the top of his class.
In last Thursday’s game, Orangeburg Prep was totally overmatched and Jake’s presence in the middle made it clear right away this was going to be a rough night for the visitors. He was a dominant presence and at times made it look unfair…finishing with four dunks on the night, all in traffic! There were several other excellent performances Thursday, most notably were Harrison Whatley (who led the team in scoring for the first time in his career with 14 points) and 8th grader Denham Wojcik who wowed the crowd with his ball handling, mature court presence and long range shooting.
Player Notes: Wesolek, a junior forward for the Northwood Chargers, leads the team in scoring at 12.1 points per game and also grabs 6.1 rebounds per contest. The Chargers, winners of two straight SCISA titles, are 10-5 this season.
Player Notes: Northwood guard McKenzie Yon scored a game-high 17 points in the Chargers’ win over rival Pinewood Prep on Friday. Yon, a senior, averages 10.1 points, 2.9 assists and 2.1 steals. She is also in National Beta Club and National Honor Society.
